LISHMA means ‘for its own sake’. In our driven, goal-oriented lives, how wonderful it is to have the opportunity to do something for our mind, heart and soul, for our own inner growth. Judaism understands the study of Torah as the source of great joy, as well as an important responsibility. Through it we explore the meaning of our lives and make the spiritual heritage of our ancestors our own. Jewish knowledge gives us competence and confidence; the wisdom of our tradition brings us inner strength and develops the sensitivity of our soul. When we learn Torah we try to listen to how God may be speaking to us in our lives.LISHMA brings together the resources of the Masorti Movement, with its values of welcome to all, commitment to learning and openness to truth. Rabbi Dr Louis Jacobs called this ‘the quest’ - that search for Torah and truth which is itself Torah. Please join us.
